Cape Town Stadium (Formerly Green Point Stadium)

Cape Town’s 2010 World Cup Stadium is ready for action. The newly constructed multi-purpose facility was built on the site of the former Green Point Stadium, between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean. The CBD, Sea Point accommodation and the V&A Waterfront are within close proximity of the R4.5 billion ground.

Green Point Stadium re-named

The 68 000-seater Green Point Stadium was recently re-named the Cape Town Stadium in a public vote. The majority of Capetonians opted for the strong, robust Cape Town brand which is known and celebrated throughout the world.

Many of the elements of the Stadium are a first for South Africa.

Cape Town Stadium Safety & Security

Cape Town Stadium ConstructionSafety and security of 2010 World Cup fans is paramount. With this in mind, the City of Cape Town has expanded its CCTV network to cover the stadium, common and precinct as well as pedestrian routes. R8 million has been spent on the camera and surveillance system.

Public Transport to the Cape Town Stadium

Fans will be able to access the stadium with relative ease. An integrated transport system will link the Stadium to World Cup accommodation areas and the city’s main attractions. A scheduled bus service will run between the city centre, the airport, Hout Bay and Table View.
