Sea Point & Green Point
The Cape Town suburbs of Sea Point and Green Point are both located on the Atlantic Seaboard. They are close to the city centre, the 2010 World Cup stadium and the V&A Waterfront. The area has been transformed into one of the trendiest of the city and boasts the ‘full Monty’ as far as entertainment goes.
Green Point is the closer of the two to the CBD and is the actual location of the Cape Town Stadium close to our 2010 World Cup rooms at the Sea Point Residence. With a ‘village vibe’ and original chic appeal, Green Point is often referred to as Africa’s Soho.
Green Point Activities & Entertainment
Gay-friendly Green Point is a blend of fashionable residential and pulsating nightlife. Narrow streets, sidewalk cafes and stylish shops make the area a sure-fire hit with both locals and visitors. After dark, Green Point turns into a full blown party land with nightclubs, pubs and alternative cabaret venues competing for patronage.
The Cape Quarter offers a premier shopping experience for the discerning and if the bump and grind of the midnight hours has taken its toll, head for Signal Hill and a stroll in the Table Mountain National Park.
Sea Point Attractions
If Green Point is SA’s Soho then Sea Point is a mini New York. High rise apartment buildings, with fantastic ocean views, dominate the beachfront. A couple of blocks back, however, is the Main Road, a bustling Mecca of pubs, restaurants, shops & take-outs.
An enduring attraction is the Sea Point Promenade, a pedestrian walkway that follows the high water mark from Mouille Point all the way to Bantry Bay. Often referred to as ‘jogger’s mile’ the promenade is a meeting place of the community. Cocktail lounges and restaurants offer respite after a brisk walk along the Atlantic Ocean.
Sea Point Security
Sea Point has recovered from its rather ‘seedy’ reputation of a couple of decades ago. Crime has been dealt a killer blow with both community and South African Police involvement. CCTV cameras were installed on major thoroughfares a few years ago, leading to a crime-free community. Like in most cities around the world, visitors should take care after dark, and avoiding ill-lit and secluded areas. With our Sea Point accommodation providing safe and centrally located 2010 world cup rooms, your stay in Sea Point is guaranteed to be a pleasurable one!
